Advice - Rogue Traders and Cold Callers

Dear Resident,

We have received a call to say that a blue/grey Ford Transit panel van was in the area of TREETON ROAD, HOWDEN, yesterday, 31/07/26, at approximately 12:00-12:10. There was a male knocking on the door of a resident claiming to be from BT.

At this time, we are unable to confirm that the male worked for BT, he did not have a clear ID to show the resident nor was he wearing a BT uniform.

No offences were committed but, understandably, this causes distress to the local community especially in an area where vulnerable people reside.

This post is to remind residents to remain vigilant, if something does not feel right when you answer the door, you have every right to ask for ID, to close the door, to call their employer for verification, to refuse to answer the door or to speak to them through a doorbell to tell them to leave the outside of your property.

Please make sure that you keep your doors and windows locked where possible, make sure that all CCTV is in working order and that you have means to call police should you need to.
